A Bit About Alyssa Mae

From a small town in Idaho, soprano Alyssa Mae Doggett began singing before she could speak. Her introduction to opera came when she began her studies with the late soprano Kristine Ciesinski at BYU- Idaho where Alyssa received her bachelor’s degree in Vocal Performance and Literature. Immediately following graduation she moved to Rochester, NY to pursue a master’s degree in Vocal Performance and Literature at the Eastman School of Music. She ended up in the Boston area for several years where she performed with various groups, taught voice lessons, and attended the Boston Conservatory at Berklee receiving a Professional Studies Certificate in voice.

Previous roles and performances include: Liu in Puccini's Turandot, Pamina in Mozart's Die Zauberflöte, the title role in Massenet’s Manon, Stephanie in Jake Heggie’s To Hell and Back, Dew Fairy and Sandman in Humperdinck’s Hansel and Gretel, Belinda in Purcell’s Dido and Aeneus, Lauretta in Puccini’s Gianni Schicchi, Mabel in Gilbert & Sullivan’s The Pirates of Penzance, and soprano soloist in Beethoven’s 9th Symphony with the Idaho Falls Symphony Orchestra, and the U.S. premier of Jean Rio Baker in the oratorio Saints on the Seas by Kurt Bestor. She was a recipient of the “Encouragement Award” two years in a row at the MONC auditions, and was honored with the “People’s Choice” award at the same competition. She placed first in the Idaho Federation of Music Club’s competition, third in the Friends of Eastman Opera competition, and second in the 2018 nationwide Classical Singer Competition.

Outside of performing, Alyssa worked to help promote opera on the local level by serving on the steering committee of Opera 51, located in Concord. MA for nearly seven years. As part of that committee, she helped plan and coordinate fundraisers, participated in the construction of stage props and basic help with costuming and makeup. She also taught as adjunct voice professor at Brigham Young University Idaho, and currently maintains a small private vocal studio. She enjoys the opportunity to share her love of singing with her students, and anyone else interested in the vocal arts. In 2021 she and her husband became the parents of twins, which means she now keeps very busy between being a wife, mother, performer, and teacher, and she wouldn't have it any other way.
